Here's my little toy!
A Cobra 148FGTL DX+[++]*
It's a really nice unit (and hard to find!)
I am VERY pleased with it...

*Why the extra pluses you ask? Read on:

I have done a few things to the radio; some to improve the performance and some just to annoy the local "troublemakers".  Here's a list:

At first, these extras were all mounted in the radio, with the covers of the radio off for access to the controls (echo knobs, etc.) [was temporarily setup as my base unit]. I later decided that I didn't want to be cutting holes in the radio case to mount switches, and didn't want to loose any of the existing controls of the radio. I decided to go with an external "Toy Box". To read more about my "Toy Box," follow this link: See NEW website (link on front page) for this information...

** There are currently a couple of really crappy pictures up.  I'll try to get better ones up as soon as possible. **

Here's a list of different bits of information about the Cobra 148FGTL DX+, the Connex 4800DXL, (besides the name, it is the exact same radio) and other radios that are similar to it along with the source of the information.

PLEASE NOTE!  There is currently more than one version of the Connex 4800.  Pay close attention to the letters at the end of the model number!  The information below pertains only to the 4800DXL (The unit without the built-in echo.)  The newer models may be similar, but, I can not guarantee they will be the same; nor can I guarantee that anything below will even pertain to, or work with, them...  The current model, as of this writing, is the 4800HPE...

Some to the part numbers listed on this page are incorrect according to the inside of my radio.  I have notified them, but they have yet to correct them...

My Cobra 148FGTL DX+ is run in one of my vehicles using a Wilson 5000 antenna and Astatic D104M-6B power mike (Makes for a REALLY screaming radio when used in conjunction with the SP1-A!) I'm down by one vehicle right now, so I have my other older model Cobra 148 GTL (One of the good ones from back in the day when they were still made by Uniden!) and my Wilson 1000 sitting on the side.

I now have a base setup consisting of a
Cobra 148GTL (Mods: Channels | Power/Mod.) This is
running through a half-wave semi-inverted "V".

My CB handle is PowerHouse
My SSB Call number is 823
I run out of the Upper Peninsula of Michigan
